Michael Lewis Murray, age 52, of Russellville, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 04, 2025 He exemplified dedication as a family man, committed colleague, and cherished friend. He was rarely seen without a smile on his face and a story to tell. He loved his wife and children very much and was extremely proud of them. He was always available to support whatever activities they enjoyed, even coached Russellville girls travel softball through two championships and travel basketball as well. One could not ask for a better husband and father who was a leader, a provider, and very protective of his family. He loved cooking, eating, and sharing meals with people. Michael was a member of Southside Baptist Church. He was a really good, down-to-earth selfless guy you could always depend on and had a true servant’s heart. He was an amateur comedian sharing a laugh with everyone he met and never meeting a stranger. He could never say no or turn down anyone who needed help. Michael was a man who loved to work. He started working at a very young age on lawn mowers, and at the age of 16, he started as a mechanic at Tinsley Buick. He worked as a maintenance mechanic for Franklin County Schools before moving to Russellville City Schools. He was the owner, manager, and mechanic at his own auto repair shop in Russellville, M&G Auto Repair or more commonly known as Michael Murray’s shop. He had served with the Russellville Fire Department as a volunteer and was a member of the Cattleman Association. He loved his Franklin County community and was happy to earn the spot of Franklin County District 1 Commissioner and was sworn in to his position in November 2024. He truly thought he could make a difference and serve his community better. Michael will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 33 years, Kathryn Melton Murray; daughter, Madison Murray, son, Grayson Murray; brothers, Rickey Murray, David Murray (Jean), Mark Murray, Chris Murray; mother-in-law, Earline Cantrell Melton; special nephews, Matt Murray (Nikki), Dusty Murray (Kelly) as well as a host of other nieces & nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Lewis & Thelma (Robinette) Murray; sister & brother-in-law, Dianne & Jimmy Mims; nieces, Callie Brooke Murray, Haylie Murray; and father-in-law, John Wayne Melton. The visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 09, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church, Russellville. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 09, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church with Jeff Murray, Jeremy Seal, and Daniel Welborn speaking at the service. The burial will be at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Phil Campbell. The pallbearers will be Grayson Murray, Matt Murray, Dusty Murray, Drake Taylor, Doyle Taylor, and Jeff Murray. Friends and family will all be considered as honorary pallbearers. Michael was a Vo-Tech student himself, and always felt there should be scholarships available for Vo-Tech. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in memory of Michael to the first Vo-Tech scholarship for Russellville and Belgreen students that will graduate in 2026.
