Mary Elizabeth "Beth" McIntosh

Mary Elizabeth (Beth) McIntosh, a resident of Russellville, Ala., departed this life on Friday, July 8, 2011 at ECM hospital in Florence, Ala. She was 92. She was predeceased by her parents, Guy Wilkerson McIntosh and Erin Aycock McIntosh of Russellville, and an infant brother. She was a niece of the late Helen M. and James H. McIntosh Sr. of Russellville and the late Elmo M. Aycock of Russellville. She is survived by her first cousins Harriet K. McDonald and James H. McIntosh Jr. of Florence, John W. McIntosh of Atlanta, Ga. and Jean M. McIntosh of New Orleans, La., and their living children and grandchildren. Beth was born on July 13, 1918 in Tuscumbia, Ala. and grew up in Russellville. She was a graduate of Russellville High School, Gulf Park Junior College in Gulfport, Miss. and George Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn. She taught Phys Ed for several years in Cherokee, Ala., and then became an executive secretary with TVA in Sheffield, Ala., serving there until her retirement. She was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Russellville, leading a Sunday school class and singing in the choir for many years. She was known for her enthusiasm, generosity, and service to others. Over the years, she was a member of Muscle Shoals District Service League, Pilot Club, Tri-Cities Cotillion Club and Phi Mu Sorority, focusing on Project Hope. For over 40 years, she participated every Saturday in singing for the residents at Terrace Manor Nursing Home in Russellville. Beth?s loves included her friends, family, church, travel, golf, yellow roses, Cokes, heavenly hash ? and all things Auburn! The family wishes to acknowledge her many friends and their contributions to her long and happy life. Special thanks go to Fran Wood and Sue Pilgrim for their long-standing friendship and their ceaseless devotion to Beth and the family during her illness. We have all been enriched by Beth?s presence in our lives, and we will miss her greatly. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 10 at Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Russellville. Those wishing to make contributions in her memory are requested to direct them to First Baptist Church of Russellville, 213 Jackson Ave. North, Russellville, AL 35653. Spry Memorial Chapel assisted the family.
