Barry Eugene Cummings

Barry Eugene Cummings, age 57, of Tuscumbia, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Huntsville Hospital. Barry was a graduate of the 1984 class of Hackleburg High School. Graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1987 and recieved his degree in commercial aviation. He flew for Southwest Airlines. He was inducted into the Marion County Sports Hall of Fame in 2011 for his honors for his season earning a Class 1A First Team All-State award where Hackleburg finished the season undefeated and ranked number 1 in Class 1A. He was also named to the All-Marion County and All Northwest Alabama Conference teams as a senior and was voted Most Valuable Offensive Lineman by his teammates. He was named Lineman of the week three times and Defensive Player of the Week twice during the same season. He was also part of another No. 1 ranked team his junior year. He loved riding motorcycles and was a member of the Christian Motorcyclists Association. He was also a member of the Cotton States Santas and loved bringing joy to children as Santa. He was Voted #1 Santa in the North Pole News in April 2023. His pride and joy was his daughter, Tara, and he was so proud of her. Barry was thought of so well by the many who knew him. He will be so missed. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter Tara Cummings; stepbrother, Jerry Ray (Amy) stepsister, Buffy Hudson (Rodney); several nieces & nephews; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Eugene Cummings; mother, Clara Nell Scott Ray; stepmother, Shirley Cummings; and stepfather, Paul Ray. The visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Spry Memorial Chapel in Russellville. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2023, at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Seth Hood and Bro. Doug Farris officiating the service. The burial will be at Cedar Tree Cemetery in Hackleburg. The pallbearers will be Mike Jackson, Greg Pounders, Jimmy Dale Vandiver, Kevin Busler, Barry Howell, and Keith Sullivan. The honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Ray, Chris Pace, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, and the Divorce Care Ministry.
